Pit Bull Mix Brutally Branded With ‘F-Word’ Gets Plastic Surgery For Chemical Burns

Felicity, the pit bull mix breed dog has gotten a new lease on life. After the abandoned pit was found branded with the “f-word,” a Kentucky dog shelter helped her get plastic surgery to remove the profane act of animal cruelty.

The pit, only 7-months-old, was found last month tied to a fence in Lexington. The act by itself was barbaric, but nothing could prepare workers with Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control for what they found next on the abandoned dog.

On the side of the pit bull, workers found the f-word branded into her skin, which left horrific burn marks. A thorough investigation by a skilled veterinarian revealed someone used a chemical process to brand the vile words onto the pit bull’s body.

Ashley Hammond with Lexington Humane Society spoke about the cruel branding of the abandoned pit bull.

“We cannot imagine the horrific pain and suffering this poor girl went through. It amazes me with everything she’s been through, she’s willing to give us a second chance.”

According to a followup story by The Huffington Post over the weekend, the precious pit bull branded with profanity received cosmetic surgery to mask the offensive word.

Since her surgery, the rescued dog is recovering well and has not lost her trust in people, which makes understanding why someone would want to hurt her all the more disturbing.

Pit bulls, like the branded Kentucky dog, are among the most misunderstood breeds. They are commonly associated with fighting, aggressive behavior towards other dogs, and a number of attacks and killings of humans.

However, much of the rumored inherent traits of this breed is part of myth and largely driven by the attention and negative headlines by a minority of media sources who feed into the hysteria and fear of this amazing animal.

Like any pet or animal companion, pit bulls require nurturing, training, and a lot of love. Oftentimes, the shocking stories of pit bull attacks are brought on by owner negligence and a lack of the aforementioned requirements pits — and all dogs — need for a happy home.

Parade shared one of the top 5 pit bull myths.

“Many people wrongly believe that pit bulls are aggressive toward people. Pit bulls were originally developed for fighting with other dogs — not people. In fact, there’s some evidence that pit bulls are actually less aggressive toward people than many other breeds. In tests conducted by the American Temperament Test Society, pit bulls had a passing rate of 82% or better – compared to only 77% of the general dog population. Problems for the pit bull arose when these dogs gained the attention of people looking for a ‘macho’ dog to meet their demands. Like any other breed of dog, pit bulls are shaped by their environment and, if not provided proper socialization and training, can be encouraged to show aggressiveness toward people.”

In the pit bull branding investigation, police have not made any arrests. However, a reward of $3,500 is offered by the KHS for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the horrendous act.
