Joyce Fuller Bean EAST MONTPELIER - Joyce Fuller Bean, 92, of East Montpelier, passed away on Dec. 6, 2018, at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing. She was born on May 7, 1926, the daughter of Floyd and Gertrude (Neal) Fuller. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1944 before attending the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston. On Sept. 27, 1947, Joyce married Harold Bean in Randolph Center. Mr. Bean predeceased her on Aug. 4, 2001. In 1950, they purchased their land on Barnes Road and for the first few months, lived in a tent while Harold built their house. Joyce was a secretary for a few years, choosing to stay home once her children were born. For 38 years, Joyce used her craftsmanship to create custom slipcovers and draperies, retiring from that in 1999. She was very civic-minded, serving on the East Montpelier School Board for five years, three of which as chair of the board. Later, she served on the Planning Commission, which she chaired for a year. Joyce enjoyed sewing and was an avid Scrabble player. She also enjoyed reading and attending the local theater shows. In earlier years, she had a large vegetable garden and many flowers. She loved meeting people and getting to know them. Survivors include her children Jeff Bean and wife Cheryl, of Middlesex, and Lesley Bean, of Calais; and granddaughters Kelcie Ann Bean, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and Molly McCreedy, of Calais; also nieces Clair Rhodes and Heather Reynolds, of Pennsylvania, Jill Perry, of West Virginia, Lynn Alstead and Diane Calfee, of Florida. She was predeceased by her sister, Audrey Fuller Otto. A calling hour will be held 10–11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
