The YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County received a $2,500 grant from the Henry E. Niles Foundation.

The grant will support the Y’s “Starfish Camp” for Kingston youngsters this summer.

Camp Starfish is a unique program offered in Kingston. Through fun activities children will stimulate their creative side while reinforcing reading and writing skills. The program focuses on being healthy and active. The program is also intended to minimize summer learning loss which is prevalent in populations that are challenged in finding affordable, quality summer programming.

The Town of Hyde Park Historical Society has again this year collected new warm hats, mittens, gloves and scarves for the Hyde Park Central School District’s elementary school students. They were distributed to the nurses’ offices for those students who need them.

The Coalition on Elder Abuse in Dutchess County received an $800 grant from the Ann and Abe Effron Fund of the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.

The grant will provide funding for transportation for older adults to attend World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 13 at Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Farm and Home Center in Millbrook. This year’s theme is “Do Your Part-Engaging Generations: Building Communities Free of Elder Abuse.”

The coalition is a program of the Mediation Center of Dutchess County.
