Golden Knights sweep a pair

Men's, women's teams top Southern New Hampshire

Six Saint Rose players reached double figures in an 88-75 win over Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday in Albany.

Saint Rose (14-4, 9-1) won its fifth straight game.

The Golden Knights led by as many as 13 points in the second half, but didn't put away Southern New Hampshire until they closed the game on a 9-0 run. Shane Herrity and Jack Jones each made two free throws late. Julian Lipinski added a fast-break dunk and Mical-Ryan Boyd capped the win with a 3-pointer.

The Golden Knights used an 18-6 run in the second half to take a 64-51 lead with 11:19 left. Lipinski had seven of his 14 points in the spurt and Boyd scored six of his team-high 19 points.

Chris Walters scored 22 for Southern Hew Hampshire (11-5, 7-4).

In the women's game, Isa Vara de Rey scored a game-high 20 points as Saint Rose held off a late rally by Southern New Hampshire to win, 69-66.

Southern New Hampshire (11-6, 7-4) led for most of the first quarter and twice took eight point leads in the second, but Saint Rose (8-9, 6-5) closed the first half on a 21-3 run. Vara de Rey scored 10 points in the run.

Saint Rose led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but Southern New Hampshire got to within a point on Gyanna Russell's jumper with less than five minutes left in game. Takora McIntyre scored four points down the stretch and Vara de Rey nailed a 3-pointer with two minutes left to push the margin back to six.
