A 21-year-old Deerfield Beach woman is facing charges that include DUI manslaughter for a head-on collision that killed two people and injured four.
Andrea Nicole Schneider was arrested Thursday following an investigation of the crash that occurred March 30, court record show.
The four-vehicle pile up happened about 6:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Robyn Underwood, 61, of Plantation, and grandaughter Breanha Free-Baker, 17, of Coral Springs, were killed in the crash.
The teen’s mother, Michele Free-Baker, of Coral Springs, Melanie Perozin, of Coconut Creek, and Schneider were taken to Broward Health North Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. A fourth person, Janis Farese, of Boca Raton, was treated at the scene of the crash, officials said.
Investigators determined Schneider was speeding when she lost control of the Dodge Avenger she was driving and veered across the eastbound lanes of West Hillsboro Boulevard.
She crossed over the raised center median and struck three vehicles in the westbound lanes, including the Nissan Altima driven by Breanha Free-Baker, a Chrysler 200, and a Hyundai Sonata, the sheriff’s office said.
At her first court appearance Friday morning, Schneider was ordered held without bond in the Broward County Jail on nearly a dozen charges that included eight DUI counts, possession of a prescription drug, and probation violations, records showed.
