Former Blue Peter presenter Mark Curry has married his gay partner in a civil ceremony in Twickenham.

The TV star exchanged vows with chartered surveyor Jeremy Sandle before Sandle's ex-wife and daughter and 50 guests.

The 47-year-old, who hosted the children's show from 1986 to 1989, commented that the day was a "joyous" occasion.

However, he added that he had been anxious about the ceremony, saying: "I get nervous just putting on a dinner party, so I was more than a little jittery about how things would go. Thankfully, there were no accidents or dramas.

"Jeremy and I are both mature people, who care deeply for each other and decided to formalise our union simply for legal purposes. Our families are 100% supportive. It's not that we needed to make any kind of declaration of our love."
