Is this the worst advert ever? Cringe-worthy New York restaurant clip goes viral
When Big Apple eatery The Place created an advert to promote their restaurant, they hoped to generate positive buzz to stand out in the competitive New York restaurant world.
Instead, the embarrassing three-minute ad has become a viral sensation for all the wrong reasons.
The cringe-worthy clip is a clear infomercial and features customers and staff talking about why they love 'The Place'.

Cringeworthy: A couple share a moment as they tell the world about The Place
The ad centers around an overly enthusiastic couple who stumble upon the West Village restaurant for the first time.
At the door, they are greeted by the happy owner Alex, and they stop at the bar before heading to their table in the
‘The restaurant seems like a secret cave,’ the man says.
‘I felt like I was transported, like I was in another world or on vacation or something,’ his date added.
The truly awkward moments come when the couple pretends like they are just adorable real-life lovebirds, playing coy about the woman’s pickiness and the fact that she was going to ‘go for’ the steak.
A waiter comments on The Place's 'contemporary American cuisine with a Mediterranean influence,' playing up the fact they use 'organic market fresh ingredients' in their 'ever evolving seasonal menu.'
Serious face: The video has now gone viral online - for all the wrong reasons
The owner boasts that 200 people have proposed at one of the restaurants tables since 1998 and makes mention that he donates 10 per cent of all profits to local childrens and ‘green’ charities.
Producing a formal commercial seems like a bold move for a restaurant, given that the dining industry normally uses word of mouth as their true calling card.
The move is even more unusual considering the fact that it is a generally well-regarded restaurant, with strong reviews from a number of local publications.
Time Out New York calls the restaurant ‘the perfect place to be’ on a warm summer night, and the discerning critics at Zagat called the menu ‘delicious’.
Staff: The owner Alex, left, talks about the proposals that have happened at the restaurant and the bartender Meghan, right, speaks to their charitable giving
It even received the commendation of Critic’s Pick from New York Magazine, which is generally considered to be in-the-know among hip Manhattanites.
The overly effusive praise that the couple lavishes on the menu makes the viewer squirm with embarrassment.
'We were looking for special but we got magical,' one of the actors gushes.
The male character raves 'terrific food, terrific people, terrific Place' and describes the steak as 'yum.'
He wasn’t kidding, as his date teases he ‘would’ve licked the plate!’
‘I did, when you were in the bathroom,’ he responds.
It is enough to put you off your food.
