Moves to Spain and Italy had been mooted in recent weeks but it now appears the 26-year-old is on the brink of a move to the Turkish giants.

Volkan Demir, a reporter for Sabah, revealed in a tweet he believed the player had left Istanbul after talks and expected a move to be confirmed on Monday.

Wilshere had a decent campaign with Arsenal last season having spent 2016/17 on loan at Bournemouth as he looked to get an injury plagued career back on track.

His performances, though, did not convince incoming Arsenal manager Unai Emery and he was released by the Gunners despite making it clear he wanted to stay.

After bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old, Wilshere went from strength to strength with Arsenal.

He was voted into the 2011 PFA Team of the Year, winning the PFA Young Player of the Year and the Arsenal Player of the Season along the way.

However, injuries dogged his career at the Emirates and curtailed his development.

It has been a difficult time for Wilshere, with the midfielder having also missed out on a place in England's World Cup squad.

And it seems he could now look to kickstart his career with a move abroad.

His potential suitors, Fenerbahce, finished second in the Turkish Super Lig last season, challenging Galatasaray for the title.

Wilshere is seen as an upgrade on 37-year-old ex-Newcastle star Emre Belozoglu and his signing would be a major coup for the club.
