ARAPAHOE PARK
The Pen Pal remained undefeated in eight starts at the track near Denver when he won Sunday's $13,150 Mile High Handicap over a field of accomplished older horses. The four-year-old gelding by Ronas Ryon races for Custom Draft Design of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and is trained by Kevin Koroulis. His Arapahoe wins include the 1999 Mile High Derby (G2) and June 4 Dash For Speed Handicap.

Ridden by Daniel Gutierrez, The Pen Pal defeated 19-1 longshot The Rainbow Rea, a multiple graded stakes qualifier, by three-quarters of a length and covered 350 yards in :17.631. Three-time Arapahoe stakes winner Dolls Prodigy was third and was followed by Grade 3 winner Dontgetexcited, Grade 1 qualifiers Gettin It Gone and Let It Fly, two-time Restricted Grade 1 winner BR Proudest Victory and Grade 3 winner Bux To Royalty.

On Saturday, Mr Casady Nova broke his maiden in a big way, defeating favorite Daisy N Eye to win the $70,730 Cherry Creek Futurity (RG3). Ridden by Jennifer Hunterson, the gelding by Casady Casanova won the 350-yard race by half of a length in :18.075.

A homebred racing for Alfred R. Marez of Fort Lupton, Colorado, Mr Casady Nova was winless in three starts prior to the Cherry Creek, including a second to Hesa Rare Legacy in the July 7 trials. He became the third-fastest qualifier to the stakes. Hipolito Michel, who trains the gelding, ended trainer John Hammes' five-race win streak in the Cherry Creek.

Delta Kas was third and was followed by Do Ya Dash, Ms Beaus Ohs, Hesa Rare Legacy, Lucky Hevron, Hes Ready Set Go, The Hot Corner and fastest qualifier Betsy Bgosh. Hammes, who was bidding for his sixth overall victory in the Cherry Creek, conditions Hesa Rare Legacy and Hes Ready Set Go.

CANTERBURY PARK
Favored Eye Opening Special won Saturday's $11,450 Bob Morehouse Memorial Stakes and recorded the first stakes win of her career. Ridden by Stuart Dolphus for trainer Edward Ross Hardy, the three-year-old Mr Eye Opener filly defeated Lacy Six Moons by half of a length and covered 400 yards on a fast track in :20.293.

Leatherneck Louie was third and was followed by Jetty Go For Gold and Milady Rona. Eye Opening Special, which races for Kari Wilmes of Le Sueur, Minnesota, qualified to the Longhorn (G2) and Northlands (G3) futurities last year. She went into the Morehouse off a July 13 allowance victory at Canterbury.

FAIR MEADOWS AT TULSA
Special Visions, third in the 1996 Remington Park Futurity (G1) and a qualifier to the 1997 Heritage Place Derby (G1), scored his first stakes win in his 30th career start when he took Friday's $26,250 Rocky Heinzig Memorial Stakes. Grade 1 winner Spanish Boot was the 6-5 favorite, but finished fifth.

Owned and trained by Brandon Parum of Weatherford, Texas, Special Visions defeated Mr Moon Streaker by half of a length and covered 350 yards on a good track in :17.720. Streakin Screwball was third and was followed by Cash Find, Spanish Boot, Lottery Pick, SW Sideshow, Hes Ready To Rumble and Somnus.

Gary Nelson rode Special Visions, a six-year-old gelding by Special Show. The victory marked the first win for Special Visions since his two-race win streak last year in which he won a $15,200 allowance race at Fair Meadows in July and followed that with a win for a $10,000 tag on November 6 at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie.

GILLESPIE COUNTY FAIR
Abundant Chick upset favored and fastest qualifier I Wana Fly to win Sunday's $18,620 TQHA Futurity (R). Ridden by Raul Ramirez Sr. for trainer James V. Harris, the daughter of Chicks Sadie is owned by Francisco Adame of Mission, Texas. She is the first stakes winner to represent her sire, a seven-year-old son of Chicks Beduino that qualified to the 1995 Heritage Place Futurity Consolation.

Abundant Chick won the 350-yard race in :18.27 to break her maiden in her fifth start. Quanahs Special Doll finished third in the futurity and was followed by My Baby Two, CSR Spider Man, Champagne Memories, Iron Tusk, Speedy Bro and Extra Fuel.  Buganser was scratched.

LOS ALAMITOS
At odds of 24-1, former claimer Expecting Miracles defeated favored Egos Classic Dash to win Saturday's $27,450 Vandy's Flash Handicap. Trainer Chris O'Dell claimed the three-year-old gelding by A Classic Dash for $6,250 in July 1999 for Marque Racing, a partnership that includes Ken Berryman of Torrance, California. Expecting Miracles worked his way back up the ladder, winning in $10,000 and $16,000 claiming events before capturing an allowance race in his final start of last year.

With John Creager aboard, Expecting Miracles broke cleanly, but was behind Egos Classic Dash. Dueling with that rival for the entire 400 yards, Expecting Miracles nosed out his rival in :19.85. Backin was third and was followed by Senor El Nino, Formative, Trickish, This Beduino Rules, Walk Thru Fire and Deceptiveness. The Vandy's Flash marked the first race of 2000 for Expecting Miracles, which is scheduled to start next in the August 12 trials to the California Sires' Cup Derby (RG2).

LOUISIANA DOWNS
Favored and fastest qualifier Louisiana Warrior set a track record when he won Sunday's $133,600 LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG2), one of a handful of American Quarter Horse stakes being run at the Bossier City, Louisiana track this year. Owner Betty Jane Burlin, trainer Steve VanBebber and jockey Gilbert Ortiz teamed for the win with the gelding by Osceola Warrior.

Louisiana Warrior won the 350-yard race by a length from Mr Jess Copy in :17.47. Jubilant Streak was third and was followed by Classic N Burr, Scoopie Cash, Hook On Me, Real Quite and Instructor Zevi. Bubba By Lite was injured and did not finish.

With the victory, Louisiana Warrior remains unbeaten in three races. At Remington Park, he was scratched from the Heritage Place Futurity Consolation.

PRAIRIE MEADOWS
Saturday's $23,100 Sherman Hill Stakes (G3) marked the first American Quarter Horse stakes of the all-breeds meet at the track near Des Moines that opened July 18. Exclusive Memories, a four-year-old gelding by Leaving Memories, won the race and scored third career stakes win at Prairie Meadows.

Ridden by Robert Roller for trainer Charley Hunt, Exclusive Memories just got up in time to finish a neck in front of Aint It Fun and Past Performance, which finished in a dead heat for second. His time for 350 yards on a fast track was :17.76. Takin On The Gold was fourth and was followed by Great Effects and Stiredup.

Exclusive Memories, which races for Kansans Jack Bannon and Maynard Greeson, won the 1999 Kansas (G2) and Altoona (G3) derbies at Prairie Meadows. He was second in the 1998 Kansas Futurity (G1) at Prairie Meadows and sixth in the 1999 Heritage Place Derby (G1). He qualified to the 1998 Kansas Jackpot Futurity (RG2), but did not run in the final.

SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK
Miss Hip Hop qualified to the October 28 Professional's Choice Challenge Championship by winning Saturday's $25,290 Professional's Choice Texas Challenge. (The race is not a stakes). The four-year-old daughter of Lazbuddie races for Manuel Gonzales II's S A Ranch of Alamo, Texas, and is trained by his 33-year-old son, Manny. S A Ranch claimed Miss Hip Hip for $3,200 in July 1999. In 1998, the mare was claimed for $4,000 at Manor Downs.

Ridden by Juan Vazquez, Miss Hip Hop ran third in her trial for the race, recorded the seventh-fastest qualifying time and was a 14-1 longshot for the final. She defeated favorite and fastest qualifier Destirona by half of a length and covered 350 yards in :17.89. Quick N Ornery was third and was followed by Effortless Romance, East regional winner Two Treys, MM Maxxam, Tee Smasher, Streakin N Looking, Mardi Gras Pie and Mr Franchise (which was disqualified from fifth for interference).

On Friday night, Flowin Ease, a homebred racing for Don Griffin of Pearsall, Texas, earned the first stakes victory of her career when she won the $14,500 Miss Houston Stakes. A 7-1 choice ridden by Jerry Yoakum for trainer Toby Keeton, the three-year-old daughter of Holland Ease won by a neck from Frivolous Fontana. Her time for 350 yards was :18.04.

Reckless Renee was third and was followed by heavy favorite Mo Betta Etta, which had to recover from a slow start. Picture Perfect Tee, Razzle Dazzle Dozen, Lizarun and High Rebel Charm completed the order of finish. Last year, Flowin Ease was ninth in the Lazy E Futurity at Remington Park. She was third in the May 12 La Villita Stakes at Retama Park and won a $7,400 allowance race at Retama on June 30 in her last start before the Miss Houston.

WYOMING DOWNS
On Sunday, the track at Evanston, Wyoming, played host to the $166,936 Silver Dollar Futurity (RG2) and $21,312 Silver Dollar Derby (R).

Favorite and fastest qualifier All American Jewel won his fourth consecutive race when he took the futurity by a neck from 17-1 longshot Moody Effort. The gelding by Streakin Jewel is a homebred racing for Harvey and Brenda Pickens of Pocatello, Idaho. On June 3, he won the Bitterroot Futurity (RG2) at Les Bois Park.

Ridden by Chad Jensen for trainer Lee Giles, All American Jewel covered 350 yards in :17.516. Dreamit was third and was followed by Mr Echos Effort, Jerichos Dash and Dashin Zeke. Mutts Dandy EFfort and Noble Thunderstorm finished in a dead heat for seventh and were followed by Blue Eyed Dasher and Proudest Treasure.

In the derby, Just Down The Lane, a gelding by Lanes Leinster, defeated BF Lollypop by a length and covered 400 yards in :19.770. A homebred racing for John and Ann Hansen of Clearfield, Utah, Just Down The Lane won last year's American West Futurity (R) at Wyoming Downs and was fourth to BF Lollypop in this year's Utah Classic Derby (RG3). Mike Nelson rode Just Down The Lane, the second-fastest qualifier for the Silver Dollar, for trainer John Hansen.

GW Heatherwood was third and was followed by fastest qualifier Royaltys First Dance, Famous Alibis, Joco Society, WS Dashing Zevee, Powerful Force, An Illusive Glance and BF Dashin Dyna.

Earlier on the card, Five Bar Molly was awarded the victory in the $17,935 Silver Dollar Futurity Consolation upon the disqualification of Schofield Kid. Ridden by Chad Jensen for trainer Lee Giles, Five Bar Molly is a daughter of Dash Ta Fame that races for The Five Barkers Inc. of Salt Lake City.
