It’s Wisconsin Cheese Day and top lawmakers are visiting cheese producers across the state.

Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch toured Eau Galle Cheese Factory in Durand Monday morning.

Wisconsin Cheese Day highlights the importance of the cheese industry to the state's economy. The lieutenant governor says cheese making is not only an industry of Wisconsin’s history; it's also an industry of the state's future.

“When you have a market that has not been fully introduced to a product, you have a lot of market opportunities, and so over the last number of trips that we have taken to China at the Wisconsin Economic Development Incorporation, this is one thing we chose to bring with use we like to introduce people to Wisconsin products,” said Kleefisch.

State leaders visited 13 cheese producers statewide to thank them for their contributions.
