DECATUR — Tammy Wilcox has been named acting executive director of Dove, Inc., following the recent departure of former Executive Director Christine Gregory, the nonprofit said.
Gregory declined to comment when contacted last week by the Herald & Review. Hired in 2016, she was the fourth person and first woman to hold the position since eight Decatur-area Disciples of Christ churches founded the agency in 1970.
Jason Butterick, Dove’s board president, said the staff was happy for Gregory's leadership during difficult times with state funding, a transition many non-profits felt. Currently, their focus has remained on their clients. “Meeting the unmet needs of the community is always priority,” he said.
Dove oversees a variety of programs for those in need, including adults and children affected by domestic violence, community services to strengthen neighborhoods and help for people struggling financially.

Butterick said the board will be developing a plan for the future as well as studying other administration roles.
Wilcox, who had been the assistant director, said the organization is not actively working to fill the position permanently at this time. “This is a busy time for us,” she said.
She has been with the organization since 1998, first working in its finance department and then as finance director before becoming assistant director.
Wilcox listed the community projects the organization is currently involved in, including Heritage and Holly tour, Coats for Kids, National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week and preparing Christmas baskets.
For those needing assistance, the staff recommend contacting the leadership team which consists of Barb Blakey, volunteer community relations director; Teri Ducy, domestic violence director; and Darsonya Switzer, Homeward Bound director.
