Knights edge Wildcats in 11-inning softball thriller

Middletown 6, Williamsport 5

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Middletown scored two runs in the bottom of the 11th to beat Williamsport in a CMC Gambrill game Tuesday.

Middletown scored a run in the first inning and held Williamsport scoreless until the Wildcats forced extra innings with a run in the seventh. The scoring seesawed back and forth over the next four innings.

Gillian Thomas had an RBI double and drew four walks, and Katelyn Yost pitched a complete game with three strikeouts for the Wildcats (4-7).

Catoctin 7, Boonsboro 5

THURMONT, Md. — Taylor Wyand smacked a three-run homer in the fifth for Boonsboro in a CMC Gambrill loss to Catoctin on Tuesday.

Boonsboro led 2-1 after three innings, before Catoctin scored five runs in the fourth.

Hannah Stewart had two hits, Grace Roupe had four strikeouts and Mikayla Miller and Becca Singleton each had a hit for the Warriors (5-3, 4-3).

Southern Fulton 11, Tussey Mountain 0

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Macey Ward had two hits and two RBIs to lead Southern Fulton to a five-inning shutout of Tussey Mountain on Tuesday.

Cheyenne Miller and Marta Murray had two RBIs each and Kylie Golden picked up the win for the Indians (4-3).

Saint James 14, St. Andrew's 0

ST. JAMES — Caleb Norris pitched a five-inning, one-hit shutout to lead Saint James past St. Andrew's in the Mid-Atlantic Conference on Tuesday.

Zach Crampton had four hits and three RBIs, Lane Gay and Chris Chaney had two hits and an RBI each and Will Hertel drove in two runs for the Saints (5-6, 4-3), who scored six runs in the second inning and six more in the fourth.

Brunswick 6, Clear Spring 5

BRUNSWICK, Md. — Brunswick scored the winning run on an error in the seventh in a win over Clear Spring on Tuesday.

Alex Avey had three hits and Connor Michael, Jacob Moffitt and Cory Sensenbaugh had two hits each for the Blazers (5-4).

Waynesboro 9, James Buchanan 6

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Hunter Clever had four hits and two RBIs, and Waynesboro scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning for a Mid-Penn Colonial win over James Buchanan on Tuesday.

Waynesboro led 6-3 before James Buchanan tied it in the bottom of the seventh.

Cole Reed and Kurt Biesecker had two hits each and Clever picked up the win in relief for the Indians (6-2, 3-2).

Washington 17, Martinsburg 3

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Spencer Delawder doubled, tripled and drove in two runs to spearhead Washington's 14-hit attack in a five-inning win over Martinsburg on Tuesday.

The Patriots (10-3) trailed 3-0 after three innings, but scored six in the fourth and 11 in the fifth.

Colton Davis went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Nathan Kerr and Collin Webster each had two hits and three RBIs, and Craig Link added two hits and two RBIs for the Patriots.

Garrett Hobson doubled twice and drove in a run, Noah Slack had two hits and an RBI, and Grant Harman also had two hits for the Bulldogs (11-3).

Hedgesville 4, Jefferson 2

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Chase Delauter went the distance for the Eagles, striking out seven while allowing two runs on five hits and three walks, as Hedgesville defeated Jefferson on Tuesday.

Delauter also went 2-for-3 with a double for the Eagles. Kyle West, Dylan Sexton and Jameson Matthew drove in a run each and Brady Weaver doubled.

Zac Rose doubled and drove in a run, Cory Daly also doubled and Dylan McCratney drove in the other run for the Cougars (10-7).

Southern Fulton 13, Tussey Mountain 2

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Colton Souders had two hits and three RBIs to lead Southern Fulton to a five-inning win over Tussey Mountain on Tuesday.

Mitchell Potter had three RBIs, Dylan Melton had a double and two RBIs, Josh Stocker had two RBIs and Gabriel Stotler pitched five innings with eight strikeouts and had two stolen bases for the Indians.

Oakdale 16, Smithsburg 4

IJAMSVILLE, Md. — The Bears pulled away in the second half in a CMC Gambrill meeting of undefeated teams.

Smithsburg (4-1, 3-1) was led by Austin Linn (three goals), Mason Keyset (goal, assist), Robert Hood (23 saves) and Sam Ewing (two caused turnovers). Zach Healy and Chase Mapes added assists.

Oakdale (7-0, 5-0) led by just 2-1 after a quarter and 8-4 in the third period before dominating late.

Middletown 11, Boonsboro 5

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Ryan Best had two goals and an assist for the Warriors in Tuesday's CMC Gambrill loss at Middletown.

Blake Morrow, Ethan Holobinko and Drew Selby each scored, Casey Prunty had an assist and Riley Simmons made eight saves for Boonsboro.

Oakdale 25, Smithsburg 6

SMITHSBURG — Erin Bryce had two goals, three draw controls and forced two turnovers, and Morgan Brenk also scored twice and secured five ground balls for the Leopards in Tuesday's CMC Gambrill loss to Oakdale.

Nora Stocksdale and Savannah Gibson each scored a goal and forced two turnovers for Smithsburg. Valerie Burk had an assist, Caitlin Ford made 11 saves and Bailey Grove controlled three ground balls.

FSK 7, St. Maria Goretti 5

UNION BRIDGE, Md. — Emily Abe scored two goals for Goretti in a loss to Francis Scott Key on Tuesday.

Zoe Mutchler had a goal, four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers, Georgia Giannaris and Jade Stewart each had a goal, Sage Lague had an assist and Hanna Manning made 13 saves for the Gaels.

Zach Healy, a senior attackman for Smithsburg’s boys lacrosse team, signed a letter of intent to play at NCAA Division II Newberry College in South Carolina. Healy was a Herald-Mail all-county first-team honoree last year after leading all county public school players in goals. Healy has led the Leopards in goals each of the the past two years.
