Cannonballs coming: Kingham roughed up, Harrison rehabs, in AA

Bradenton was rained out and Indianapolis was off.

— Nick Kingham got hit around some as Altoona (18-16) lost to Richmond, 7-3. Kingham gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings. He walked one, struck out four and threw 78 pitches. Brandon Waddell followed and also got hit around, giving up three runs on six hits in three innings. He walked one and struck out three. Josh Harrison started his rehab, playing seven innings at second and going 0-3 with a walk. Jason Martin, as usual, led the offense, going 3-4 with his fifth home run. He’s now up to 361/417/639. Will Craig was 1-4 with his fourth home run. Cole Tucker was 0-5 and is now in a 7-for-66 (.106) slide.

— Travis MacGregor lasted only an inning and two-thirds as West Virginia (22-14) dropped the first game of its doubleheader with Lakewood, 5-2. The loss broke the Power’s six-game winning streak. MacGregor threw only 39 pitches and allowed only two runs, but he gave up six hits and a walk; there was no indication that he was hurt. Oneil Cruz went 2-3 and Deon Stafford was 1-3 with his third home run.

The Power won the second game, 2-1. Rodolfo Castro hit the game-winner, his fourth homer, in the top of the seventh. Starter Hunter Stratton gave up a run on five hits in five innings. He walked none and struck out six. Stratton joined the Power three weeks ago and struggled in his first two outings, but has a 2.57 ERA in 14 innings over his last three games, with 17 Ks. The Power hitters fanned 13 times in the seven-inning game.
