If you have a friend or a loved one that "supports" your interests in heavy metal, but doesn't quite "get it," may I make a strong recommendation to take this person to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra this winter.
If you're new to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the basic concept is they take classic holiday songs and make them as large and as epic as you can imagine, adding a metal edge to them. So, it's the perfect introduction to a non-metalhead of what metal is about. Sure, it's ultimately mainstream metal – it's not like Corpsegrinder is about to come out and do a tune – but it will go a long way in helping your loved ones understand the awesome power of metal.
