A man will be sentenced next month for assaulting his father.

Jason Arbing changed his plea to guilty Friday at the scheduled start of his trial in provincial court.

John Arbing called police on Feb. 16 complaining that his son, Jason, had assaulted him.

John said he was not harmed by his son punching him, but that he is scared of him and does not want him around.

A small fire had also been started in John’s home, but Jason said it was accidentally caused by a discarded cigarette. Jason needed to be taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Jason has a lengthy criminal record that includes several assault convictions.

He is currently receiving attention at the Provincial Addictions Treatment Facility.

He has an outstanding balance of $12,300 from past convictions.

He will be sentenced June 13.
