2019 Living Legends Of Alexandria Nominations Open

Know someone who has made a huge contribution to the community? Nominate them for the annual Living Legends of Alexandria awards.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Want to recognize a community member for their significant efforts to make Alexandria better? Nominations for the 2019 Living Legends of Alexandria awards. Nominations will close on Sept. 30.

The awards give residents an opportunity to honor the numerous individuals who have not yet received the prestigious community award. Living Legends typically have "outstanding contributions to improve the quality of life in the City of Alexandria." They may have helped the disadvantaged, created or revitalized public space, brought arts to new audiences, mentored children, improved lives of the needy or other efforts.

Once the new Living Legends are selected in the fall, their lives are recorded in portraiture, profiles, and video interviews. They are inducted as Living Legends at a formal reception the following spring. Their portraits are permanently kept by the Office of Historic Alexandria and their written profiles are recorded in the Library of Congress and the Library of Richmond and displayed in city libraries. Nine people were selected as Living Legends last year.
