Along with U.S. Senate and 9th District congressional races, Southwest Virginia voters will choose town council members in a number of towns.
» DICKENSON COUNTY: In Dickenson County, there will be a special election for a Clinchco Town Council member. Nathan Mullins and Don Hill Sr. are running for the seat.
» HONAKER: The town of Honaker in Russell County will also hold its regular mayor and council elections. Incumbent C.H. Wallace and Donald Joseph Lambert are running in the mayoral race. In the Town Council race, incumbents Scott D. McGlothlin and Darrell R. Dye are running for three seats along with Sharon Martin Pinder, David Noalen Strouth, J. Steven Fox, Timothy Ryan Hart, and Dewey Benton “Benny” Chafin.
» RUSSELL COUNTY: Russell County also will hold a special election for an at-large Board of Supervisors member. Oris R. Christian and Harry G. Ferguson Jr. are running for the seat.

» CLEVELAND: Voters in Cleveland will choose between five candidates for three Town Council members. The candidates are W.D. “Jake” Chumbley III, Marcus Allen Combs, Linda I. Couch and Jeremiah W. “Tiny” Neal.
» NORTON: In the city of Norton, voters will select three council members. Four people, including Delores J. “Dee” Belcher, Joseph E. Fawbush, William J. Mays and G. Scott Addison Jr., are on the ballot.
Four people are seeking three seats on the Norton School Board, including Cody A. McElroy, Carl B. Caruso, Joe Brian Stallard and James Wesley Campbell.
» TAZEWELL COUNTY: Voters in the towns of Tazewell County also will head to the polls. Jannis R. “Jan” White and Paul David Crawford are seeking votes to become the mayor of Richlands while Tazewell voters will choose between A. Donald Buchanan Jr. and Michael F. Hoops for mayor.
Tazewell voters will also select three new council members from four candidates, Terry W. Mullins, Emily Combs Davis, Jack T. Murray and Chris R. Brown.
» CEDAR BLUFF: Six candidates, including Marilyn D. Altizer, Tim N. Altizer, Joe Blair McGlothlin, Johnnie Smith, and Terry L. Stevenson, are seeking three seats on Town Council in Cedar Bluff. Tonya V. Wicks and C. Jerry Herron are also running in a special election for one seat on the Cedar Bluff Town Council.
» POCAHONTAS: Voters in Pocahontas will choose four to represent them on Town Council. Donald E. Cates II, Virginia M. “Ginger” Cates, Jack R. Mullins, Michael H. Gibson, David Allan Dubbs, Ted M. Sluss, A. Brad Belcher and J. Suzanne Brinegar are running for the four seats.
» RICHLANDS: Seven people are also running for three Town Council seats in Richlands. The candidates are Hunter W. Johnson, Karen S. Deel, Jeremy D. Smith, Richard W. Brown, Mary Ann Strong, Rod D. Cury and Nathaniel Chad Justice.
» WYTHE COUNTY: Wythe County voters will select a new clerk of court in a special election. Jeremiah “Moe” Musser, Lennon E. Counts, Karen L. Akers and James E. “Jim” Workman II are on the ballot.
A new commonwealth’s attorney will also be chosen in Wythe County. Candidates include Mike Jones, Paul R. Cassell and David Saliba.
» PROPOSED AMENDMENT QUESTIONS: There will also be two proposed constitutional amendment questions on Tuesday’s ballots in Virginia.
If it passes, one would amend state law to authorize the General Assembly to allow localities to provide a partial tax exemption for real property subject to recurrent flooding, if improvements have been made on the property to address flooding.
The second would allow the surviving spouse of any veteran who has been determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to have a 100 percent service-connected, permanent and total disability to continue to claim the tax exemption currently provided even if the surviving spouse moves to a new principal place of residence owned by the surviving spouse.
