From earrings shaped like shooting stars, to bracelets inspired by the moon, not to mention a necklace that resembles constellation of stars, for her new collaboration with Atelier Swarovski, Penélope Cruz was inspired by the skies, which is the basis for her jewelry collection in rose gold, yellow gold, and rhodium plated metal. Combining pieces of jewelry in a limited edition with a line of fine jewelry made with Swarovski crystals, the Moonsun collection, in addition to being an ode to the galaxy, pays tribute to her childhood memories.

What is your first memory about jewelry?
Penélope Cruz : I remember as a child, I would sit in the floor drawing jewelry over people on the pages of magazines, so seeing this collection come to life has been like a dream.
One of the rings in my fine jewelry collection was inspired by a piece of jewelry given to me by my grandmother. It was a ring that was lost or stolen many years ago, so I have designed a ring in her honor which I’m very proud of. It’s crafted from three-lab grown created rubies surrounded by lab-created diamonds. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long-time.
Which piece would you wear on the red carpet for the Cannes Film Festival?
I would definitely wear the bespoke set I designed especially for Cannes this year.
And which one for every day?
Moonsun Collection perfectly describes my style, the Delineation has a very delicate design, perfect for everyday wear.
Which jewelry piece would you give as a gift to your friends?
The rings that you can stuck together making the changing shapes of the moon or the sun.
Which jewelry piece do you never take off?
My wedding ring
How have the stars and planets inspired you for this collection?
I really care about not having a negative impact on the planet, in what I do, what I wear and what my family and I consume. It’s important to consider the implications for our environment in everything we do, which is why I loved working with Atelier Swarovski.
Do you prefer yellow gold, white gold or pink gold?
I love the combination of white gold and yellow gold. I think its very rock and roll
Which is your favorite jewelry piece from the collection?
The mismatched earrings trend for this spring. While I love all the new pieces in my collection, I’m definitely in love with the Moonsun Drop earrings, which feature both a moon and star symbol for an asymmetrical look that still feels minimal and sophisticated.
Which values do you share with Atelier Swarovski?
Luxury brands have a duty to act in a responsible manner and be considerate to our planet. My collaboration with Atelier Swarovski give me the opportunity to open up discussions, shine a light on Conscious Luxury and create products that have a positive impact.
How do you feel about the stones used by Atelier Swarovski from an ethical point of view?
Before speaking to Nadja I didn’t realize that it was possible to create stones in a lab that looked so real. As soon as I became aware of created diamonds and other lab-grown precious stones, I was excited to start designing pieces using them. I feel very fortunate to be working with such an inspirational brand.
