Tarantino launches multimedia contest for 'Django Unchained'

Quentin Tarantino wants to be inspired by a new artist or filmmaker who will make a multi-media piece for his next film Django Unchained, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx.

The director of Inglourious Basterds and Kill Bill is launching an Emerging Artist Contest, running June 15-30, with the winner meeting him at the upcoming Comic-Con in July in San Diego, California.

The contest invites filmmakers, artists, graphic designers and/or musicians to create an original multi-media piece -- poster art, funny graphics or short film -- and submit for review by Tarantino, who will judge all submissions.

"Mark June 15 as the day that your life can possibly change forever," states the website, sponsored by Red Bull beverages and Weinstein Pictures.

The winner and a guest will be flown to the Comic-Con convention to attend the Django Unchained panel and learn why the winning piece was selected.

Participants are encouraged to sign up for the newsletter and check back to learn what inspired Quentin to make the film and get advice from the master.

Guidelines listed on the website ask for a maximum of three minutes in length, including footage from the official Django Unchained trailer or one of Quentin's three favorite spaghetti Westerns that influenced his film, plus a track from Red Bull Records (all available to download on June 15).

On July 1, the submissions will be available to view online and audiences can vote.

The film, written by Tarantino, follows a slave-turned-bounty hunter who sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner. It also stars Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Kerry Washington, Don Johnson and Franco Nero.

Django Unchained will release on December 25, Christmas Day, in North America, followed worldwide in January 2013.
