MARTINSVILLE, Va. (October 10, 2013) – There is reality TV and then there is Lizard Lick, the true-life story of Ron and Amy Shirley and their tow-truck business that has gathered rave reviews since it first appeared on Tru-TV in the winter of 2011.
The show, which Tru-TV describes as “actuality, not reality” TV, highlights the day-to-day running of Lizard Lick Towing and Recovery, which is full of controversy, drama and a lot of humor.
Amy won’t be driving any of the company’s 20 tow trucks on October 27, but she will be in the flag stand at Martinsville Speedway waving the green flag as honorary starter for the Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500 Powered by Kroger. There will be one of the Lizard Lick tow trucks on display for the weekend.
“They say Virginia is for lovers and I love a good race,” said Amy. “In the repo world, cars are our business, so I’m excited to be part of all the action at Martinsville. Can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than at the track meeting our awesome fans.”
“We know race fans love Lizard Lick. There’s a special connection between the cast of characters and many of our fans,” said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “When we had the opportunity to bring Amy in to start our race, we jumped at it.”
Lizard Lick first premiered on February 7, 2011 and features the intense reactions to the company’s repossessions, complete with the dynamic and entertaining personalities of Ron, Amy, and their friend/co-worker Bobby Brantley.
It quickly became a fan favorite. The season three premiere in January of 2013 had 2.9 million viewers tune in, marking a 30% increase in viewership.
Amy gets a lot of the tough assignments in the day-to-day operation of Lizard Lick Towing, like handling irate owners who want their property back after Ron has repossessed it. It’s not like she ever backs down, though because she’s also a world champion power lifter and a martial artist, a licensed mortician and a mother of four.
Lizard Lick is a small North Carolina town located near Raleigh, N.C.
