Argyle pitcher/designated hitter Bryson Hudgens and Argyle head coach Ricky Griffin captures the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards with the release of the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 4A all-state baseball team.
Hudgens — an Angelo State signee — was 12-0 on the mound with a 1.06 ERA. He also hit .417 with four home runs and 43 RBIs. Hudgens was the only senior starter for Argyle, which won the Class 4A title with a perfect 37-0 record.
Kilgore’s Javan Smitherman and Canton’s Johnnie Krawietz made the second team as pitchers. Texarkana Pleasant Grove’s Carson Cox was a second-team outfielder.
Kilgore second baseman Ren Reynolds and Canton outfielder Blayne Clower both landed on the third team.
East Texans to earn honorable mention honors were Kilgore’s Chase Hampton, Canton’s Simon Miller and Pleasant Grove’s Nick Voyles at pitcher; Gladewater’s Keylon Mack at first base; Lufkin Hudson’s Ian Greer at second base; Krawietz at shortstop; and Van’s Casey Morrow at third base.
