The Rio Olympics are over gone but not forgotten on NBC, where Michael Phelps made an appearance on America’s Got Talent (2.1/8). Unlike the ratings-challenged 2016 Games, the most decorated Olympian of all time helped bring some bounce. The highest rated and most watched show (10.48 million viewers) of Wednesday’s primetime, the 9 PM AGT saw a rise of 17% among adults 18-49 and 12% in viewers from its last Wednesday show August 3. With lead-out The Night Shift (1.1/4) up 22% in the demo from its last original, also on August 3, NBC took the night overall with a 1.5/6 rating and 7.75 million viewers.
Fox was all MasterChef (1.3/5) last night and that worked out, with the Gordon Ramsay-led series up a tenth from its last Season 7 original August 3. CBS had Big Brother (2.0/8) at 8 PM and American Gothic (0.5/2) at 10 PM, with a Criminal Minds (0.7/3) encore in the middle at 9 PM. The long-running reality show ticked up 11% from last week to match a season demo high, while the newbie drama was up a tenth.
The CW’s Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.4/2) and Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.4/1) were up a tenth and even with their last originals, respectively. ABC was all encores last night.
