ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - After a month-long delay, plans to redevelop a portion of Ross Park Mall are back on track. Township commissioners on Monday approved the renovation plans of mall owners Simon Properties.

Simon wants to demolish the former Sears store, replacing it with a new three-story building and a stand-alone two story building. Those buildings would house the new shops and cinema, as well as a new fitness facility.

Simon also plans to relocate the mall food court.

There’s no word yet on when construction will begin.

Commissioners last month delayed approving the plans after voicing concerns over pedestrian safety around the new building.

When Sears closed its store in the mall, Simon promised a "transformational redevelopment" of the space being vacated by the struggling retailer.

"We are excited to redevelop the former Sears store with uses that will benefit the community and the existing retailers in these properties," Michael E. McCarty, chief operating officer of Simon Malls, said at the time.
