Grimes joined the cast of True Blood as vampire James, a romantic interest of Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll).

An HBO spokesperson stated: "The role of James is being recast due to the creative direction of the character."

Insiders close to Grimes have claimed that he decided to end his contract after discovering what his character had in store.

"He initially joined the show because he wanted to work with [his Forever co-star] Deborah Ann Woll," the source stated.

"But when he started reading the scripts for Season 7, he was disappointed to learn that they were going in a completely different direction with James."

The role will now be recast with a different actor for the final season. The show will return to HBO in summer 2014.

Grimes recently joined the cast of Fifty Shades of Grey as Christian Grey's brother.
