Skier Dies On Mount Rainier After Fall Into Crevasse

The skier died Sunday after falling into a crevasse on the Emmons Glacier.

LONGMIRE, WA - A skier died Sunday after falling into a crevasse on Mount Rainier on the Emmons Glacier, according to multiple reports. The skier was part of a group that had climbed to the summit of Mount Rainier. The skier was in the process of descending the mountain when he fell into the crevasse.

Park rangers responded to the scene and used ropes to climb 150 feet into the crevasse to retrieve the skier. The skier had died of his injuries by the time rangers reached him, according to reports.

The skier was taken via helicopter to the Pierce County Medical Examiner and had not been identified as of Tuesday morning.
