MSRB: Board Moving Offices to New Alexandria, Va., Location

The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board plans to consolidate and move its offices to a new location in Alexandria, Va., on May 7, the board announced yesterday.

For several years, the board has maintained offices on 18th St. in Northwest Washington, D.C., as well as in a building on King St. in Alexandria, Va.

But MSRB officials said the group decided to consolidate its offices in Virginia to save money and provide better services to the municipal securities industry.

Christopher Taylor, the MSRB's executive director, said yesterday that it is difficult to assess the total cost savings that will be obtained by the move. However, he said, the lease rate for office space in the district ranges from about $40 to $45 per square foot, compared to only about $28 per square foot for buildings in Alexandria.

Taylor said also that housing the staff all in one place will "certainly be a lot more efficient and will lead to better services."

The board's new address will be: 1900 Duke St./ Suite 600/ Alexandria, Va./ 22314.

The MSRB has already obtained new phone numbers. All of the numbers have a 703 area code. The main number is (703) 797-6600. Other numbers include 797-6700 for rulemaking and policy; 797-6703 for accounting; 797-6704 for the Municipal Securities Information Library; and 797-6708 for transaction reporting.
