Dodie Clark, a musical artist and YouTube star, recently released her first official collection of songs on multiple platforms, including Apple Music and Amazon Music.

The EP “Intertwined” puts Clark’s uniquely British voice and instrumental expertise on display for the world to enjoy.

YouTube helped Clark rise to fame. She’s been posting videos of herself singing covers and playing her own songs in front of the camera since 2011, and totaled more than 75 million views on her channel.

Whenever she sings, her ukulele is always by her side. Clark even used her ukulele to sing along to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass.”

“Intertwined” kicks off with the title song. The simple strumming of the guitar serves as the only background in the song, which allows Clark’s beautiful voice to shine through. Her voice contains a mixture of a Broadway singer’s precise and tuneful sound, with the light tone of an indie singer. Instead of belting out each note, she softly sings a blissful, simple song about love.

The next song is “I Have a Hole in My Tooth (and My Dentist Is Shut).” The 40-second song uses two beats following different melodies to create a silly tone for an odd song that talks about having a cavity. This song is my favorite because it’s quirky and original.

All of Clark’s songs on the EP were originally written by her and published on YouTube first, and the exact tunes were taken from YouTube and recorded professionally for her EP. This proves just how creative and talented she is as an artist.

“Absolutely Smitten” is also a fantastic track. Clark brings out her ukulele again to make a feel-good song about young love. The tambourine in the background also reinforces the sweet, happy song that reminds me of the songs used on Target commercials. The light use of background singers turns this joyful song into a catchy tune that reminds me of the chorus of “In the Sun” by Vassy.

Overall, “Intertwined” accurately encompasses Clark’s quirky character and introduces a unique type of upbeat and springy music to listeners. Even though she is British, I would not be surprised if she topped charts in the United States in the future.
