Staten Island Pets: Dogs and cats looking for loving homes this weekend

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Homeless dogs and cats are ready to join forever families in time for the holidays.

At Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C), the December promotion continues with reduced fees on dog and cat adoptions at its three care centers. The special makes it $10 (usually $25 to $50) for cats 7 months and older and $25 (usually $50 to $75) for dogs 7 months and older. All AC&C adoptions include vaccinations, spay/neuter, a pre-registered microchip, an identification tag, a collar, and a certificate for a free initial exam at a participating veterinarian.

Greyhound Friends of New Jersey will have its monthly "Meet and Greet"  Sunday at PETCO in Charleston Shopping Center. Information about adopting retired racers will be offered and members will have their dogs with them to greet visitors. No dogs will be available for adoption at the event.

And as they do every weekend, volunteer rescue groups will have dogs and cats, puppies and kittens at adoption events around the borough. All the animals are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations and ready to settle in at loving  homes.
