Neighbors living near West 170th Street and Plimpton Avenue are calling for change after a recent car accident.
Earlier this month, a cellphone video caught the moments right after a car plowed into an apartment complex at the intersection.
Frankie Marero has lived in Highbridge for 42 years and says the intersection is a magnet for accidents.
"All you have to do is just stand here and you're gonna see people run the stop sign," says Marero. "They can't see it plain and simple."
Neighbors want a stop light to be installed on Plimpton Avenue and a stop sign put on West 170th Street, but they say they feel ignored by the city. Marero says the city is doing nothing to fix the problem.
Department of Transportation officials say a study was already conducted at the intersection and it found that a traffic light was not feasible.
Pedestrians say even trying to cross the intersection safely is tough. They say one major problem is a lack of visibility.
News 12 also reached out to the Parks Department, which released a statement saying, "Parks makes every effort to preserve and protect trees in the public right-of-way until their health or condition warrants removal. We do not remove healthy trees due to infrastructure conflicts with sewer lines or sidewalk concrete."
