Dorothy Wang Interview

Dorothy Wang Reveals Her Favorite Spots In Sin City

“I actually got a call from the casting agent who saw my Instagram and asked me if I’d like to be on the show,” says Dorothy Wang on how she became a part of E!’s new series Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, which premieres this Sunday at 10/9 central. We caught up with Ms. Wang, who is the daughter of Chinese-American businessman and billionaire Roger Wang, to get to know her a bit before the show hits there air. We wanted to garner some insight on how the other half lives and parties when they visit Sin City.

As far as having any reservations of letting the world watch her life play out on camera, Wang says, “I’ve always been really open and a very public person. I don’t lie about things and am not worried that people may find things out. It is a little nerve-wracking, of course, but it’s also a growing experience to learn about myself by getting an outside perspective. For example, if you have not been that nice to a person you have an opportunity to reflect on yourself and evaluate your actions.”

Wang also addressed an assertion that her only occupation is being “funemployed and fabuluxe” — she’s actually a licensed real estate broker. Wang explains that there is in fact a ”misconception of what it means to be funemployed. For me, it just means you enjoy your work. I also enjoy the luxury that I do not have to take on a job that I am not passionate about. Yes, I now work in real estate, but I have also had a lot of internships to find what I want to do — everything from the jewelry business to TV production. I was actually an intern for PBS’ Travis Smiley and took him to China. I later decided I wanted to settle down, so I helped a friend buy house in Beverly Hills and now work with Mauricio Umansky [from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills] at The Agency."

But this wouldn't be a show without excess and (conspicuous) consumption — and believe us, there is plenty of that. Wang asserts that, “Dom is better than Cristal” in the first episode and we had to ask her, “What about Ace of Spades?” While she does like Ace, she explains that the “Cristal company is racist and if Jay Z doesn’t drink it, I don’t. Dom also has softer taste, while Cristal is a little harder. For me it’s the cherry on top at the end of the night.

"I’m really a vodka-soda kind of girl. Oh, and for the record, there’s nothing worse than having champagne poured all over you, which happened to me in an early episode when we go to Cabo to celebrate [co-stars] Morgan and Brendan’s anniversary. That ruined my hair and got into my eyeball!”

Wang On Where To Stay
The Villas at The Mirage
Why: The Mansions at The MGM are so exclusive they declined to supply a image.

Dorothy Wang (DW): “I’ve been going to Vegas about three times a year since I was 6 — my dad plays baccarat. Everyone thinks it's weird we go as a family but, honestly, Vegas is the most luxurious place with the best service and the best food. We switch around which hotel we stay at, but I love The Mansions at The MGM Grand. Every room has a butler and there are not a million people in lobby. It’s small and a little exclusive. I also really love and The Villas at The Mirage. You even have your own putting green in the back. The style is complete luxury, and we literally had six butlers there. When I was younger, I really was craving chicken and waffles and the butlers made that happen.

Wang on Fine Dining
Picasso
Why: The service is tops.

DW: “My favorite restaurant in Vegas is Julian Serrano’s two Michelin-starred Picasso. They do a tasting menu with small portions. It’s French, but not too frou-frou. When I was a child the waiters always gave flowers from the displays in the middle and from then on I loved it there. You can also watch the fountain show in this room filled with Picassos. I always get the same thing (since I was 12!): Squab salad and foie gras. I appreciate the foie so much much more in Las Vegas now that it’s banned in California.

Wang On Where To Pop Bottles
XS Nightclub
Why: They have the best DJs.

DW: “XS is always fun. I like being on stage and in the booth. They are really good for house music. It’s always fun and they also manage to have 'the good people' while still being a mega club. It’s definitely a staple.”

Wang On Where To Listen To Hip-Hop
1 Oak
Why: It’s intimate.

DW: “1 Oak is a little smaller and I know [managing partner] Eli Pacino, [owner] Scott [Sartiano] and [VIP host] Jason [Wood]. I also like that they play hip-hop and it’s great if you don’t want a megaclub.”

Wang On Relaxing
The Spa at Wynn
Why: It’s the best — and I’ve been to them all.

DW: “I love The Spa at Wynn and always prefer going to a nice spa rather than getting an in-room massage.”

Wang On Where Men Should Shop
Crystals at City Center
Why: It’s not overwhelming.

DW: “I really like the new City Center. It’s new and there are not so many tourists. Boys get overwhelmed by crowds and this is more comfortable. It’s big and airy.”

Wang On Entertainment
Love
Why: You can see it again and again.

DW: “I’ve seen every show seven times — literally. From Celine to Cirque to Britney to Beyonce — Steve Wynn’s private concerts are amazing. Recently, I just went back and saw Love, because who doesn’t love the Beatles? It’s something that you can see it again and again.”

Wang On Outdoor Pursuits
Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort
Why: You can actually ski in the desert.

DW: “I love to go skiing in Vegas and there is this great place called Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard that most people don’t realize is just 40 minutes away by limo.”

Wang On Her Love For Animals
The Mirage’s Dolphin Habitat
Why: Lose at blackjack, swim with the dolphins.

DW: “I love to swim with dolphins at The Mirage. Just talk to your casino host to get you in before they open to the public.”
