PITTSBURGH -- Police officers are escorting a western Pennsylvania high school's sports teams following allegations that the school's soccer team used racial slurs during a game.

School police officers travelled with Connellsville Area High School athletic teams to away games at Penn Hills High School this week.

The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League opened an investigation after a Penn Hills official said Connellsville soccer players used slurs during a Sept. 6 game. Officials concluded that allegations made by Penn Hills officials were "reasonably credible."

Penn Hills Superintendent Nancy Hines says the decision to bring armed security is "culturally insensitive."

Connellsville Area School District Superintendent Joseph Bradley says bringing school officers is standard practice.

Connellsville is a predominantly white school; Penn Hills has a high percentage of black students.

WPIAL has ordered Connellsville Area School District to participate in racial sensitivity training.
