Back To School: Here Are Some Events To Help Students Get Ready

With the start of school on Aug. 13, the community is hosting a variety of events to help students prepare for the new school year.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – With the start of school on Aug. 13, the community is hosting a variety of events to help students prepare for the new school year.

School Supply Collection

Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department crews will be collecting school supplies this weekend for Clearwater students as they head back to school Aug. 13.

Firefighters will be in front of the Walmart located at 23106 U.S. 19 N. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4 and 5. The collection effort coincides with the state's tax-free holiday on school supplies to encourage residents to donate.

Free.Health Screenings

The Walmart at the corner of U.S. 19 and State Road 590 is offering low-income and uninsured students free back-to-school school/sport physicals, limited dental services and vision screenings on Mondays through Thursdays through Aug. 8. Call to schedule an appointment.

Back 2 School Bash for Special Needs

The second annual Miracle 4 Michael Back 2 School Bash for Special Needs Families will take place Sunday, Aug. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Event Hall, 6152 126th Ave. N., Unit 500, Largo.

The event is designed for children with special needs. There will be free food, adaptive Zumba and sensory activities along with raffles and giveaways. Backpacks filled with school supplies will be given away while supplies last. Click here to register.

Free School Supplies

Beaming Hope Church will give away free school supplies Sunday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church, 11000 110th Ave. N., Larg0.

Back to School Night

Great Explorations Children's Museum, 1925 4th St. N., St. Petersburg, will host a night of fun before the kids head back to the classrooms Sunday, Aug. 5 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event includes gift bags for the first 100 families, light food, open exhibits and lunch-packing tips. Tickets are $10. Age 1 and younger are free. Call (727) 821-8992.

Back to School Festival

Kids can prepare for the upcoming school year at a free festival with K9 demonstrations, free school supplies, prizes, DJ dancing, exercises, activities and a bike raffle Sunday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pinellas Park Performing Arts Center, 4951 78th Ave. N, Pinellas Park.

Kid-Centric Festival

Bring the family for this free kid-centric festival with back-to-school goodies and wellness exams Sunday, Aug. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Highland Recreation Complex, 400 Highland Ave. N.E., Largo.

Fill a Backpack

Kids are invited to bring a backpack and fill it with school supplies for free, check out the Touch-A-Truck exhibit and enjoy refreshments Monday, Aug. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Law Firm of Carey Leisure and Neal, 622 Bypass Drive, Clearwater.
