Siskiyou County residents who live in these towns can share their input on housing needs

Siskiyou County officials, who are in the middle of making plans for housing needs in the unincorporated communities, have scheduled a virtual meeting this week to get residents' participation in the process.

The housing element update is a community plan for all types of housing for the next eight years, Hailey Lang, county planning deputy director, said in a statement released earlier this month.

The meeting is slated for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and is open to residents who live and work in the following areas:  

  • Carrick, Edgewood, Gazelle, Greenview, Grenada, Happy Camp, Hornbrook, Lake Shastina, Macdoel, McCloud, Mount Hebron, Seiad Valley, Scott Valley and Tennant, in addition to any other areas located outside of city limits.

The meeting is accessible to residents in English, Hmong and Spanish, and closed captioning is available.

Also this spring, county housing officials plan to release an online community survey at www.siskiyoucountyhousingelement.com.

Updates to the housing plan will be ongoing through February 2023.

Siskiyou County boards need members

Siskiyou County is looking to fill a vacancy on two boards.

The Behavioral Health Services Board is looking for a resident who can serve through Dec. 31, 2024, and review and evaluate the county's mental health services and facilities, including drug and alcohol services. 

The board meets at 3:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month in Yreka. Meetings usually last for two hours and are open to the public. Members serve three-year terms and are reimbursed for mileage to attend meetings and certain training expenses.

The county Clerk's Office described the qualifications for members who serve on the board: A county resident as consumer of mental health services, or a family member of a mental health services consumer; or a person who is interested in mental health issues.

Shasta Valley Resource Conservation District has a term expiring November 26, 2022, that needs to be filled.

Members of the conservation district must be registered voters living within the district. Members are required to file Form 700, Statement of Economic Interest. For more information on this requirement, the county’s Conflict of Interest Code is available online on the county clerk’s page at www.co.siskiyou.ca.us.
