Check out the best defensive tackle Urban Meyer has recruited at Ohio State

Ohio State has recruited at an elite level unmatched by virtually anybody in college football outside of Alabama, and they’ve done it at almost every position. Defensive back? They probably signed the best defensive back class ever last cycle. There is a bevy of blue-chip quarterbacks and running backs on the roster, along with an astonishing collection of terrifying defensive ends. The Buckeyes even grabbed the best punter in the country in 2016.

But there’s one position group where recruiting has lagged a bit behind, much to the chagrin of some fans, and that’s defensive tackle.

It’s not like Ohio State isn’t getting good players. Guys like Michael Hill and Malik Barrow were four-star players, and other elite recruits, like Dre’Mont Jones, and Jashon Cornell, were blue-chippers who moved inside. But Ohio State has swung hard on a few nationally ranked, pure DTs over the last few classes, and struck out most of the time.

Maybe it’s because most of those players are concentrated in the southeast. Maybe it’s about scheme. Maybe it’s about something else.

The streak ended in the 2017 recruiting class, as the Buckeyes inked high four-star Haskell Garrett out of Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. Garrett was the fourth ranked DT in the country, and should help plug the middle for Buckeye lines for years to come.

But Ohio State has another commit that may be even better. Meet five-star Taron Vincent. He’s GOOD.

How good? Watch this.

We’re a long ways from signing day, and other schools will surely come after Vincent. After all, he’s the top ranked defensive tackle in the whole country, and a top ten player, period.

But if he sticks, the narrative that Ohio State can’t recruit elite DTs should die down, especially since the Buckeyes are likely to add at least one more very good DT in the 2018 class.
