NEW MADRID, MO (KFVS) - Multiple crews responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-55 in New Madrid County, Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 17.

According to MSHP, a semi driven by Kenneth Alford, 54, of Melbourne, Florida, was traveling south on I-55 near the 64 mile marker when Alford began to slide and hit another semi driven by Gabriel Calin, 33, of Woodridge, Illinois.

Both vehicles caught fire. Alford’s semi continued off the roadway, hitting a vehicle driven by Clyde Griffin, 65, of Matthews, Mo., and Kenneth Francis, 50, of Hernando, Mississippi. After Griffin was hit by the semi, his vehicle continue, hitting another vehicle, which in turn, hit another vehicle. In total six vehicles were involved in this accident.

Alford was pronounced dead at the scene by New Madrid County Coroner George Delisle. A passenger of Mr. Griffin, Carolyn Farrenburg, 63, of Matthews, Mo. was flown to a regional hospital with serious injuries.

According to Sikeston Professional Firefighters Association, Sikeston DPS and Sikeston DPS Hazmat Team responded to a crash near the 64 mile marker of I-55.

There was a tractor trailer fire and explosion involving two semis.
