Roundup: Brighton wins two relays in MISCA swim meet

Brighton freshman Jordyn Libler was third in the 200 individual medley at the MISCA swimming and diving meet.

With most of the top teams in the state on hand, Brighton won two relays and finished second in the other at the Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association meet Saturday at Eastern Michigan University.

Brighton’s Maddie Mince, Julianne Libler, Gabby Mainhardt and Chloe Reed won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:37.55. Reed, Drue Thielking, Mainhardt and Lindsey Witte took first in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:36.93.

Finishing second in the 200 medley relay for Brighton were Witte, Jordyn Libler, Mince and Julianne Libler in 1:48.66.

Reed, Mince and Julianne Libler each had two top-five individual finishes.

Mince was fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.43) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (58.42). Reed was fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:01.83) and tied for fifth in the 50 freestyle (24.44). Julianne Libler was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.68) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:10.92).

The top individual finish by a Livingston County swimmer was freshman Jordyn Libler’s third place in the 200 IM in 2:10.29.

Hartland’s Marissa Harris was seventh in the 50 freestyle (24.83) and was on the sixth-place 200 freestyle relay team with Alaina Pifer, Ava Williams and Olivia Nied.

Emily Endebrock finished 21st in 20:01.3, leading Howell to a fourth-place finish in the Greater Lansing Cross Country Championship.

CROSS COUNTRY

Greater Lansing Cross Country Championship

Howell’s girls cross country team improved 10 places from last year, finishing fourth out of 34 teams at Ledge Meadows Golf Course in Grand Ledge.

The Highlanders scored 196 points. They were 14th last year and 15th in 2016.

Junior Emily Endebrock finished 21st in 20:01.3 to lead Howell. Also scoring for the Highlanders were Alyssa Kanclerz (39th, 20:42.0), Samantha Shaw (40th, 20:42.3), Jessica Pennala (42nd, 20:46.6) and Victoria Pargoff (54th, 21:00.7).

Fowlerville finished 10th with 302 points. Lillian Copeland was 29th in 20:18.2 and Jenna Rigotti 37th in 20:35.3 for the Gladiators.

In the boys meet, Fowlerville was 19th out of 37 teams with 538 points and Howell was 21st with 540.

Fowlerville’s Blake Howard was 64th in 17:39.4 and Howell’s Timothy Stachowski was 75th in 17:48.3.

It was the final weekend of cross country invitationals for Livingston County teams before league meets Thursday and regionals on Oct. 26.

Brighton, Hartland and Howell will run in the KLAA meet at 3:30 p.m. at Huron Meadows Metropark in Brighton. Fowlerville runs its final CAAC Red jamboree at 5 p.m. at Williamston. Pinckney runs in the SEC White meet at 2:30 p.m. at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter.

Hartland freshman Riley Hough finished second in the Kayla O'Mara Invitational in Goodrich.

Hartland’s boys and girls finished third at Goodrich Middle School.

Freshman Riley Hough was second in 16:04.17 to lead Hartland’s boys. Connor Krueger (ninth, 16:54.10), Ethan Beres (24th, 17:13.74), David Samson (25th, 17:18.36) and Tyler Cook (28th, 17:22.71) also scored for the Eagles.

Hartland’s girls packed their five scoring runners within 32 seconds of each other, led by Isabella Schmenk, who was 18th in 20:26.69. Erin Vimr (22nd, 20:33.01), Mackenzie Allan (25th, 20:42.33), Maggie Zimmermann (30th, 20:53.13) and Sydney Caddell (34th, 20:57.96) were the Eagles’ other scoring runners.

Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Invitational

Even without their regular varsity lineup, Brighton’s No. 1-ranked boys had six runners break 17 minutes in a race in which Plymouth junior Carter Solomon ran a state-leading 14:58.98.

Brighton was fourth with 87 points. Plymouth won with 41.

Aidan Bustillo (11th, 16:22.41), John Caley (14th, 16:33.17), Evan Ross (19th, 16:50.28), Andrew Wilson (21st, 16:54.66) , Patrick Whitton (22nd, 16:55.90) and Donovan White (23rd, 16:56.29) broke 17 minutes for Brighton.

Brighton’s girls were also fourth while holding out their top runners. Emma Notaro was 12th (20:28), Rachel Fusik 13th (20:43) and Sophie Wisbiski 19th (21:12) for Brighton.

 

GOLF

Division 2, Region 10 tournament

Pinckney was the only team to post five scores under 100, but the Pirates fell one place short of qualifying for the state tournament.

Pinckney shot 384, eight shots behind third-place St. Johns. Okemos, which had the minimum of four scores posted, with a 347. Fenton took second at 361.

Pinckney junior Allison Elliott shot 94, one shot out of the final state-qualifying berth. Reece Ohmer and Olivia Ohmer shot 96s, Hailey Roberts shot 98 and Madison Worrilow 99 for the Pirates.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Livonia Churchill tournament

Fowlerville finished third, losing to Howell in the semifinals, 30-32, 25-21, 17-15.

The Gladiators were first in their pool after beating Allen Park, Wayne Memorial and Hartland.

Leah Ash had 30 kills and 14 blocks; Livvie DuFore had 27 kills, 36 digs and 12 aces; Jackie Jarvis had 18 kills and 43 digs; Grace Wallace had 51 digs; and Abby Thomas had 89 assists for Fowlerville.
