State representative to speak at Bowerston Memorial Day service

BOWERSTON State Rep. Don Jones, R-Freeport, will be guest speaker for the annual Memorial Day celebration in Bowerston on May 27.

Jones, who is serving his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives, represents the 95th district, which includes Carroll, Harrison and Noble counties, as well as portions of Washington and Belmont counties.

The event will be held at Bowerston's Gateway Memorial Park, by the historic cannon.

Mayor Milo Baker, who has been instrumental in organizing Bowerston's Memorial Day service, announced that Troy Akins, DJ from Music du Jour, will kick off the ceremony at 11:30, before Conotton Valley's marching band is featured, playing patriotic tunes, beginning at noon.

Jones was an agricultural education teacher and Future Farmers of America advisor at Harrison Central High School for 23 years. He also works at his family's farm equipment dealership, D&J Sales & Service Inc. He has been a certified volunteer fireman and emergency medical technician for the last 27 years with the Deersville Community Volunteer Fire Department & Emergency Squad.

He also served nine years as chairman of the Harrison Soil and Water Conservation District. Jones is currently serving as chairman of the South Central Power Foundation board, and has done so since its inception in 2014.

He and his family live near Freeport.

All veterans will be honored, and everyone is invited and welcome to attend.
