Rumba sensation Ferre Gola staged an electrifying show at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre last Friday. True to his word, the rumba maestro did not disappoint, singing out his all-time favourites like Vita Imana and Boite Noire.

Prior to his show, the organisers ensured no one got bored. Deejays Marto Sibuor, Mike and Saye kept the crowd busy with the latest lingala and occasionally some oldies like Tchacho. This went on until 11pm when the man of the hour made his entry. It was what everyone was waiting for.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you have been waiting for... introducing the man of the moment – Nairobi’s all time favourite Ferre Gola all the way from DRC Congo,” introduced emcee Mama Afrika Elombe amidst cheers from fans who could be seen surging towards the stage to have a closer glimpse of their star.

Dance moves

Ferre stepped on stage looking sharp in grey and black designer outfits and matching shoes backed up with his 17 Jet Seven band dressed in white.

The moment he stepped on the stage, hundreds of fans surged forward as men clapped their hands while women screamed wildly throwing their hands in the air. Before long the crowd was singing along to Vita Imana, Maboko Pamba, Boite Noire, Qui est derriere toi — (Look whose behind you), Derrangment capping it with his latest Judgement. To the delight of many of the female fans, Ferre did not disappoint with his dance moves. Many pushed forward to catch a glimpse of the man as men watched with envy.

And for four hours non-stop, Ferre kept revelers entertained occasionally breaking his singing with energetic stage performances.  Even when his time was up, fans still yearned for more. This was Ferre in action proving beyond reasonable doubt that despite having staged several shows in Kenya lately, he is still remains a force to reckon with. “I am glad that fans enjoyed my music tonight, including my latest songs and dance style. It was nice to see them dance along,” he said.
