Body found in barrel inside Westmoreland County home

EAST VANDERGRIFT, Pa. — A police chief says a male body has been found in a plastic barrel in the basement of a home in western Pennsylvania.

The Westmoreland County coroner's office wasn't expecting to release information on the body for hours, but confirmed the death in East Vandergrift was being treated as suspicious.

Vandergrift police Chief Joseph Caporali tells the (Tarentum) Valley News Dispatch that another male was in custody for questioning after borough police were called to the home on Tuesday morning and alerted the coroner.

County detectives were also processing the scene and treating the case as a homicide.

East Vandergrift is a tiny borough about 30 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. It is served by police from Vandergrift, a neighboring borough.
