Stirling Albion will still be “a threat” when they visit Galabank despite their recent poor form, according to Annan Athletic boss Peter Murphy.

The Binos, third in Scottish League Two, are three points ahead of the Black and Golds and have two games in hand on today’s opponents (3pm kick-off).

But Stirling’s recent form has not been quite as impressive, having gone three matches since their last win.

They will also be without midfielder Andy Black who will start a two-game suspension.

“Andy Black has been hit with a two-match ban after being sent off in the 1-0 home defeat to Peterhead on Tuesday night,” a club statement read.

“The former Dundee midfielder will now miss Saturday’s game against Annan Athletic at Galabank and the December 23 meeting with leaders Montrose at Forthbank.

“Assuming there are no more postponements, the 22-year-old will be available for the game against Elgin City at Borough Briggs on December 30.”

Ahead of their second meeting this season, after Stirling beat Athletic 3-2 in September, Murphy said: “Stirling started off like a house on fire. But they concede goals, as well.

“Their form has dipped a little bit but they are still a threat.”

In contrast, Annan are on a six-match unbeaten run.

Carlisle United’s record outfield appearance-maker Murphy said: “We have got four draws and two wins.

“But momentum can only last as long as nobody stops it. We need to make sure we keep doing what we are doing.

“I’m sure there will be more ups and downs this season. It’s important that the players don’t get too down when we lose and too excited when we win."

"I’m looking every which way,” Murphy added on his fifth-placed side’s place in the table.

“The media will say we are near the play-offs but I’m not thinking about that. I am just looking at the next game.”

Former Oxford United, Livingston and St Johnstone player Dave Mackay is in charge at Stirling.

“There are quite a few younger managers in the league that have good [playing] experience,” player-manager Murphy said.

“But, really, it’s about knowing your players and getting the best out of them.”
