The Gossip Girl Reboot Has Been Delayed Until Next Year
Like most industries, Hollywood has been affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with red carpet event cancellations and the halting of production on TV shows and movies. And unfortunately, for Upper East Siders looking forward to the drama surrounding a new generation of wealthy teens, they'll have to wait a little longer for the highly-anticipated Gossip Girl reboot to arrive on HBO Max because of the current health crisis.
Slated to debut this fall, the ten-episode series will now be delayed until 2021 (at the earliest), as filming hasn't even begun. "They hadn’t even started production yet; they were in pre-production and ready to roll," HBO Max's chief content officer Kevin Reilly told Vulture about the reboot earlier this week. “Things that would have been really meaningful and high profile have gotten pushed back."

While Reilly didn't offer a definitive date for when filming will commence, he added that the situation is "really disappointing."

Gossip Girl joins a long list of other shows that have had to hit pause on production plans. Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston's The Morning Show on Apple TV+ has been put on hold along with series on other streaming services, such as The Handmaid's Tale, Sex Education, and Carnival Row.
Despite the GG reboot officially being postponed, fans can still rewatch the original series on Netflix.
