In the same venue that she made her WWE debut four years ago, Paige announced her retirement from WWE last night after suffering a neck injury in December.

Paige was one of the youngest wrestlers to pick up a WWE championship when she won the WWE Divas title in 2014, and now at 25 will never wrestle again.

The Norwich born star only returned to competing in December 2017 after an injury layoff of over 500 days, but was re-injured just months later.

On 27 December in New York, Paige was kicked in the back by Sasha Banks during a six-women’s match. The match was stopped soon after the kick, and Paige was able to walk to the back, but the injury has become a career-ender.

Paige spoke about her retirement on WWE Raw last night, and admitted that it had been difficult to watch on the sidelines at Wrestlemania, but due to her neck injury she would not be able to perform again.

Every woman on the WWE roster was thanked, alongside her family, Daniel Bryan, Edge, WWE and the WWE fans.

Her immediate future remains uncertain, although she did reference her need to ‘find something else’ at the end of her retirement segment.

For now, the first ever NXT Women’s champion will be promoting the upcoming film which is based on her life. Produced by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s production company, Fighting With My Family is inspired by Channel 4’s 2012 documentary on Paige and her family, which The Rock stumbled across while filming Fast & Furious 6 in London.

The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant wrote and directed the film, which stars Lena Headey, Nick Frost, Florence Pugh and Vince Vaughn.

A sneak peek of the film was released at the weekend, which features Dwayne Johnson and the two actors portraying Paige and her brother Zak.
