Abingdon Man Charged With Peeping Tom At White Marsh Mall

The man who installed a camera in the White Marsh Mall family restroom has been identified; police said it was an Abingdon man.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — An Abingdon man has been charged in connection with a case of voyeurism at the White Marsh Mall. Police said that the man installed a camera in the family restroom at the mall in Baltimore County before Christmas. Another person using the restroom brought the camera to the attention of authorities shortly after it began recording, police said, but not before the suspect caught himself on camera by accident.

After a call for tips last week, Baltimore County police said that the suspect was identified within 24 hours.

Mussawwir M. Sterrett, 40, of the 3600 block of Woodsdale Road in Abingdon, has been charged with prurient intent and peeping tom, police reported Jan. 17. Arrested Jan. 16, Sterrett was being held without bail.

Police said there may be additional victims, since Sterrett was the general manager of a company in Perry Hall that installs security cameras, according to WBAL, which reported that he also volunteered with the Y in Perry Hall and Parkville.

Authorities said the camera at White Marsh Mall in the 8200 block of Perry Hall Boulevard was discovered at about 6:30 p.m. Dec. 23, 2017 by a patron using the family restroom in the food court area of the mall. The camera was pointed toward one of the facilities and had been secured with electrical tape to a partition, according to authorities, who said the recording equipment and SD card were turned over to police.

"...there were very few people caught on video, indicating the camera was there only for a short period of time," police said in a Jan. 11 statement.
