NEW YORK: U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 3.68%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LONDON:AAL), which rose 9.33% or 62.00 points to trade at 726.30 at the close. Meanwhile, BHP Billiton PLC (LONDON:BLT) added 9.21% or 93.00 points to end at 1102.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LONDON:ANTO) was up 8.90% or 50.00 points to 611.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Whitbread PLC (LONDON:WTB), which fell 0.91% or 44.00 points to trade at 4776.00 at the close. RSA Insurance Group PLC (LONDON:RSA) added 0.49% or 2.500 points to end at 515.000 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LONDON:MERL) was up 1.05% or 4.00 points to 384.20.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 2174 to 435 and 449 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.19% or 2.10 to $1122.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 8.37% or 3.23 to hit $41.83 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 7.52% or 3.25 to trade at $46.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.37% to 1.5404, while EUR/GBP fell 0.44% to 0.7285.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.66% at 95.93.
