The weekend weather is definitely going to be dry and quite seasonable for the second half of October.  The biggest issue for the weekend is the chance of a hard frost or freeze Saturday morning in areas that haven’t see one yet this fall. This would put an end to the growing season if you leave your plants outdoors.  It could also affect some golf games early Saturday morning.

If you’re playing soccer, softball, baseball, or golf …

The morning chill Saturday is the biggest issue of the weekend.  Temperatures will be quite cold, even along the coast.  There could be frost delays on the golf courses so if you have a sunrise tee time plan on waiting to start or move your time after 8 a.m when the frost will likely be melted.

There might be some dew early Sunday, but fields will be dry.  All in all, this is a great weekend for any field activities.

If you’re going to Foxborough to watch the Patriots

This is an ideal football weekend.  Temperatures for morning tailgating will be rising in the 50s after overnight lows in the 40s.  Look for temperatures around 60 degrees during the game and expect all sunshine.  Bring sunscreen if you are in the sun. You’d be surprised, but you can still get burned.

If you’re going to a local farm for apple picking, pony rides and cider donuts …

If last weekend was too wet for you, this weekend is ideal.  Most farms are still picking apples and there are plenty of fall activities around the region.  Take a hayride, have some cider and eat lots of apples.  This is October at its best!

If you’re viewing the foliage …

The weather doesn’t get any better than this.  Head to your favorite spot and start taking pictures!

If you’re gardening …

The drought was dinged a bit from last week’s rain, but it’s still in place.  Cover tender plants or bring them inside.  Old bed sheets work great for getting tomatoes through the cold night; just remember to remove them two hours after sunrise.

If you’re hiking or walking or running …

It doesn’t matter where in New England you go this weekend, sunshine and cool temperatures are the rule.  If you are going to be outside early or late in the day, temperatures will be cool enough to require a coat, but it will be quite pleasant during the late mornings and early afternoons.

If you’re running errands …

Either day is going to be dry and sunny.  No issues on the roads from the weather.  Get shopping done early to avoid the crowds.

If you’re going to a concert, outdoor party or wedding …

Any outdoor event will happen with full cooperation from the weather.  Shady areas will be cool, especially Saturday.

I will be updating the forecast on Twitter @growingwisdom throughout the weekend.
