Badcock Home Furniture & More is now hiring for its planned Two Rivers Center location.

A Mulberry, Fla.-based furniture store chain is planning a Clarksville store in Two Rivers Center near downtown.

Badcock Home Furniture & More has its city building permit for 668 N. Riverside Drive, Suite D12. It will be occupying space on the side of Two Rivers that's facing Providence Boulevard

The building permit's construction vaiue is $161,442. Interior remodeling is currently under way and the opening date is unspecified.

The company is hiring now for the new Clarksville store. The announcement means more vacant space at Two Rivers will soon be occupied with retail.

Prior to the mid-1980s and advent of Governor's Square Mall in St. Bethlehem, Two Rivers had been Clarksville's centrally-located regional shopping mall and has sought to restore its vitality ever since. It has been part of a broader long-term plan to revitalize the entire River District from New Providence to Liberty Park and the Clarksville Marina.

Badcock offers what the company website describes as "beautiful furniture and modern appliances" that are obtainable with flexible in-house financing.

"Since our motto is 'Badcock will treat you right,' we make sure that you can furnish your home confidently," the company says.

The company was founded more than 100 years ago by Henry Stanhope Badcock in Florida, where the headquarters is located today.

During the Great Depression in the 1920s, Henry's son, Wogan, saw that many families were struggling financially and were unable to afford the furniture they needed.

Seeing an opportunity to help, he decided to sell furniture to clients on credit and allow them to pay it off in installments.

"Today, we still value Wogan's notion that everyone has a right to a home they feel confident about. At Badcock Home Furniture & More, we make it easy to have the furniture and appliances that you want at prices you can afford," the company says.
