NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — A domestic disturbance left a woman critically injured early Friday after being shot by her husband in North Austin, police said.

In an early morning briefing with reporters, Senior Police Officer Marcos Johnson said the shooting occurred along the 4600 block of Seton Center Parkway at an apartment complex called Estates on Quarry Lake Apartments. Police originally alerted to the incident just after 12:45 am. The officer said the incident involves a husband and wife.

Hours later, just before 4 a.m., the standoff ended. Unconfirmed reports have surfaced indicating the police SWAT scene ended after the suspect was found dead inside the apartment, and Patch is attempting to ascertain the accuracy of those reports.

Witnesses told police they heard a woman screaming after several shots were fired. A neighbor was able to help the woman exit the apartment after she was shot before she was transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Into the early morning hours, police were trying to ascertain whether the suspect was barricaded inside the apartment or had fled the scene. He was described as an Asian black male standing at five feet, 11 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds, Johnson said.

The suspect was last seen wearing only his underwear. Johnson at the time urged anyone seeing the man to not engage him as he could still be armed. Instead, anyone seeing the suspect is urged to call 911, the officer said.

There was no word on any evacuations of surrounding residents, but Johnson urged anyone living in the area to lock their doors and not leave their homes until the suspect is caught.

The full arsenal of police tools was dispatched to the scene as officers set up a perimeter around the crime scene. SWAT team members were called out and a police helicopter was dispatched to aid in searching.
