The Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama campus has been given the “all clear” following a soft lockdown that went into effect as police searched for an armed auto theft suspect in the surrounding areas.

The lockdown was lifted at about 11 a.m., said Communications Director Kevin Imanaka.

Police dispatch released an all-points bulletin for the suspect who was reportedly armed with a sawed-off shotgun at about 6 a.m. where he was last seen on Houghtailing Street

At some point, the suspect ditched the vehicle outside of the main gate of the Kapalama campus and fled on foot.

Michelle Yu, spokeswoman of the Honolulu Police Department, said police, including a department helicopter, responded and conducted a search of the area. Officers of the K-9 unit are continuing the search for the suspect in the neighborhood.

The Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama campus went into a soft lockdown at about 8:25 a.m. During the lockdown, students remained in their classrooms until the lockdown was lifted.

The suspect did not enter campus grounds after he ditched the stolen vehicle.

Imanaka said the preschool is closed today due to parent-teacher conferences.
