Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: See Old And New Balloons (PHOTOS)

Even the brisk New York City weather forecast can't stop our favorite characters from floating through the busy city streets in the 2018 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This year marks the 92nd go-round for holiday tradition, with old and new faces in tow. If you can't make it in person, NBC will broadcast the parade live from 9 a.m.-noon.

Although Felix the Cat takes the honor of being the first Macy's balloon way back in 1924, it's the familiar faces of Shrek and the Peanuts gang that have come to be sure signifiers for the festive event. From Popeye in 1929 to multiple variations of Ronald McDonald and SpongeBob SquarePants, we've rounded up some of the most iconic balloons and floats in nearly a century full of Thanksgiving parades. Even certain celebrity talent, like the late Joan Rivers, have become so synonymous with the parade that it's hard to ever imagine it without them.

Macy's is never one to shy away from featuring the latest pop culture phenomenons, so be sure to keep an eye open for all the new characters too. From the four elves in Netflix's upcoming "A Christmas Chronicles" to the lovable Little Cloud emoji, we have all of the new additions in the balloon and float line-up that you won't want to miss. Seriously though, there's a Kinder chocolate-themed float. For real.
