WEST HELENA, Ark. — The Arkansas State Police are investigating after an officer reportedly shot a man after witnessing him stab his daughter to death during a domestic incident early Thursday morning. The incident happened around 1 a.m. Thursday on North Ninth Street in West Helena, Arkansas. It all started when authorities received a call of an unwanted party at the home. Those who live on this block said that they kept hearing a banging noise Thursday morning. They say it was the suspect, Rumondale Jones, slamming his daughter, Adrianna Woods, into a vehicle outside the home before a Helena-West Helena Police officer showed up. When an officer arrived, he witnessed the 39-year-old suspect stabbing Woods. Jones lunged at the officer and was killed after being told to drop the knife. Witnesses said they heard the officer tell the man multiple times to drop the knife before he apparently refused. They also say after he was shot he ran into the home, then came back out and was shot again. Jones and his daughter died on the scene.   A toddler, who neighbors say was Woods’ child, and Woods’ nine-year-old brother reportedly witnessed the incident. Police say Jones also stabbed his 61-year-old mother inside the home. She was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Woods was reportedly engaged to be married. Her fiancee’s family told WREG’s Shay Arthur her grandmother- the second victim in the attack – raised her. They went on to say her father spent time in prison and the police responded to the home where the attack happened frequently. They also believed he battled drug addiction. According to police, this was not the first time authorities have been called to the home. In fact, the most recent call was received on Wednesday, just hours before the violence. Woods’ fiancee’s family says an officer was able to get the suspect to leave but he later returned. The officer has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
